PICSI/IMSI
Fertility Treatment
PICSI/IMSI
What is PICSI/IMSI?
PICSI and IMSI are advanced sperm selection techniques used in IVF to improve fertilization outcomes, particularly in cases of male infertility. PICSI selects sperm based on its ability to bind to hyaluronan, indicating higher maturity and quality.
IMSI uses a high-powered microscope to examine sperm morphology at higher magnification, ensuring the selection of the healthiest sperm. Both methods enhance sperm quality, increasing the chances of successful fertilization and embryo development.
How is the procedure performed?
- A sperm sample is collected and processed for use in IVF.
- For PICSI, sperm is placed in a dish containing hyaluronan, and sperm that binds to it is selected for its maturity.
- For IMSI, sperm is examined under a high-powered microscope to assess morphology, selecting the best quality sperm.
- The selected sperm from both methods is injected into the egg using ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection).
- Both techniques improve fertilization rates by selecting healthier sperm, especially in cases of male infertility.
